Expanded...

Where as my reasons are that I hate my legal name, those who read my goal entries on this should know that my birthname and legal name are two different things. I was raised Native American and thus my “birthname” is Lakota in origin. My legal name, however, is one that the State of South Dakota enforced my mother to pick since the state bans all “non-Christianized” names from being legal names.

I was once proud to be called Ripples on Water, then I became He Who Fights on Golden Wing, then Circling Turtle, and, finally and currently, Chasing Raven. I am extremely proud of all of these names because they mark turning points in my life and growth steps within my own self. And beside them, “Douglass” is just so not me, I have to do something about it.

For a long time now...

It seems like I have never really liked my legal name and I am constantly trying to change it to one that I do like. Right now, the name associated with this account is the one Im currently using with friends and family and it seems to be going over well. I have chosen two middle names and I intend to use both of them in my new legal name.

I have done my research in the state that I live in (OH) and it is incredibly easy to change one’s name here.

Next step: Wait for October 21st.
That is when I become a legal resident of Ohio and can take the next step in my quest for a new name.
