I have been reading a thought-provoking book by medical intuitive Caroline Myss, based on St. Teresa of Avila’s “castle” metaphor of the soul. I imagine a dungeon where the people I believe(d) to have transgressed, offended, or hurt me have been locked up. When they, in the form of bad memories, enter my consciousness, I ask myself if it’s time to let them go. Then I visualize myself opening their cell door, tell them I forgive them, and letting them go is a step in the process of self-forgiveness.

I’ve spoken with my dad, estranged for 20+ years.
I’ve exchanged e-mails with my cousin, estranged for 20+ years.
I love it when one can just pick up again and feel forgiven. Or maybe it’s because my mom died and somehow she was a block for these people.
