I’m considering getting together some kind of tutorial session on semantic web technologies for OpenPublish 2006 – a basic introduction to the concepts, and building a quick application atop a triple store in less than 40 minutes.
If anyone has some suggestions about how I should go about it or things to make special note of, please feel free to drop me a line or comment on this post!

... are targetted at either Python or Java, or C#.
It’s not that I’m afraid of Java, exactly, or python, it’s just that I have a preferred language, and buddy: it aint Java.
Enter the PHP-Java bridge – a connector between PHP & Java or PHP & .NET – suddenly you can leverage the power of a lot of existing Semantic Web technology in a language that one hell of a lot of people use (if somewhat poorly).

I discovered a thing called GEPIR the other day, a distributed metadata system in place between the EAN barcode authorities of many countries.
I want to get this out as RDF as soon as I can :) Think of it… anything with an EAN barcode with a full description / manufacturer contact info…
I’m also doing a point of sale system which deals exclusively with EAN-13 barcodes, so I’ll get lots of sample real world products to play with.
Now… I just need someone who’s alright with Java (more alright than me) to help me author a barcode OCR tool.
