My household (3 adults, 1 kid) is just starting on this project. I’m glad to see entries like Joe’s about deciding what should be in the kit, and accepting the “We’d be screwed” answer for at least some questions. Our goal is to build a kit that will allow us to camp out in our yard or neighborhood for 3-7 days. The kit will share components with our camping gear that gets used only about 1-2 times a year.
So we’re looking at suitable (weatherproof; verminproof) boxes for storing items outside in relatively sheltered locations. Ideally, these boxes, when full, could still be lugged by two people and tossed into cars (like a minivan) if necessary… but our main goal is to be able to shelter in place instead of evacuate.
Anyone have suggestions/ideas for such storage boxes? I like Daniel’s list of supplies and will probably glom onto that for a start…
