4 Weeks Left in the Semester!!! 1 month ago

So I’m coming down to the end of my fall semester of my junior. Right now I’m in my med-surg rotation and I’m at Newark Beth Israel Medical Ceneter. I love my clinical professor and I’m learning so much. I passed my med administration exam and so I’m now giving out meds! I’ve even done two injections already! It’s exciting.
But…this semester has definitely been the most difficult so far, thanks to Pharmacology. I can’t believe how much information there is. And the clinicals are a lot of work. But I’m enjoying all of it!
So basically 5 semesters down and 3 more to go! YAYYYY!
Hope the rest of you are doing well on your journey to becoming a nurse!!! :)

Halfway there!!! 7 months ago

So I finished my sophomore year!!! I’m going to be starting my clinicals this fall and I’m so excited!!! I’m halfway to getting my RN and BSN! I can’t believe it’s already been two years.
I loved this past semester, especially pathophysiology. It was the hardest class ever, but also the most interesting. And, I was lucky to have an amazing professor, so it all worked out. I got an A-!!! Next semester I’m taking Adult 1, gero, pharm and legal aspects. Just have to get through microbiology which I’m taking in June.
More updates to come! I hope everyone is doing well!!!

Three semesters down, five to go!!! 11 months ago

I just started my 4th semester at the nursing school of Seton Hall University. So far I’m doing very well and really enjoying my classes. I’ve finished all of my core requirements so from here on in its all nursing and science courses. My big classes this time around are pathophysiology and organic/biochem. I enjoyed Health Assessment last semester, it was my favorite so far. I start clinicals next semester/year. I’m so excited!!! :D
Hope all of you are doing well with this! I think its totally worth it.

Semester Two 22 months ago

Well, here I am n my second semester!!!! I’m actually taking two instead of one nursing classes this time around. I’m taking Culture and Health, which is interesting!!! I like it and I just handed in my first paper!
I’m also taking “Individual And Family Development Across The Lifespan”. It should be really interesting but my teacher is unfortunately boring. She just stands up front with a slideshow for the whole 3 hours. I went up to talk to her about having to leave early one day and she said that SHE was bored! That should tell you something!!! Anyway, I have a huge test in it tomorrow. We’ve only had 4 classes but we have 6 chapters to study!!! Oh well, I guess I better get used to this type of worklosad.
It just all came up so quickly….tests, quizzes and papers!! Eek!
Anyways, I’m still enjoying myself a lot and looking forward to moving forward with it!!! I’m taking Anatomy and Physiology 1 and 2 over the summer (because this school doesn’t have enough lab space for all their students). That kind of annoyed me but I guess its nice to have just that class to focus on. I can’t believe I already sign up for fall classes in March. Craziness!
Okie, that’s about it. Time for class!!!

Almost... 2 years ago

...done with my first semester!!! Weee!

Finally... 2 years ago

I know where I’m going to school. After mucho fighting with Seton Hall about where my admission letter was…it finally came and I was accepted! I visited the campus yesterday and that’s where I’ll be heading in the fall (as a nursing major of course)!!! I’m so excited…I don’t think I’ve ever been this excited to go to school. That really says something :)

What's The Deal?!?!? 2 years ago

So, I need some opinions and advice on this one.
Here’s the deal:
I applied to nursing programs/schools back in the end of January/early February. I applied to Bloomfield College and Seton Hall University (and a county college for back-up).
I heard from Bloomfield by the end of February/early March. Bloomfield is a very diverse, small college, but has a nice nursing program. When I talked to students they said they liked it because it was “easy”. I was accepted into the college with a transfer academic scholarship. The school is very affordable, and I decided to enroll and made up my schedule.

Seton Hall, on the other hand is getting on my nerves. It was where I really wanted to go, but its May and I have yet to hear from them.
I called them on March 9th to check on the status of my application (because you know that if you wait too long, other schools may give away your spot, and/or your scholarship). They said it was in review.
Exactly two months later, I called them back. They said that now my application was complete and ready for review, and I would hear from them in 2-4 weeks. That would make it, June…or possibly early July. Their classes start right after labor day. Maybe its just me, but that sounds pretty poor.
If I hadn’t already enrolled in Bloomfield, who knows what would’ve happened. And if I didn’t get accepted to Seton Hall, I could’ve been…well…screwed. I e-mailed the guy from Seton Hall back and explained my concern. That was a week ago, and I have yet to hear from him.

So, now the thing is: if I ever do hear from Seton Hall and am accepted, do I leave Bloomfield (I’d get a full refund if I withdraw before classes start) and enroll there? It is a very expensive school, but I believe it will be more challenging and I’ll feel more comfortable there. Plus, at Bloomfield I have to first take an exam to become a nursing major after my freshman year (for now I’m a pre-nursing major). And god forbid I don’t pass, then what?...Seton Hall you come in as a nursing major.

My Mom’s question is…are there enough things better about this school to make it worth the money? Does where you get your degree effect your getting hired as a nurse?
But even if it doesn’t, could getting it at one place prepare you better and make you more confident? Will I come out a better nurse from one or the other, even if the employer doesn’t care what school my degree came from?

Any advice?

Moving Along... 2 years ago

I went yesterday to meet with my advisor to schedule my classes. My first year is going to be spent doing all my pre-reqs and core classes before I take my entrance exam to get into the nursing program. So, I’m taking things like College Algebra/Trig, Anatomy and Physiology, Biology, Chemistry, etc. this year.
I start classes the last week of August. I can’t wait!!! Four months ago I was starting my 3rd semester as a music education major, and since then I’ve withdrawn from that school, applied to nursing school, been accepted with a scholarship, enrolled, and now I’ve gotten my fall schedule done! :) This is awesome.

Enrolled! 2 years ago

So I’ve decided that I’m going to go to Bloomfield College. I received a $5,000 academic transfer scholarship that I can have renewed for 6 semesters if I keep my grades up (which I plan to). I’m sending in my deposit today, and then I’ll be setting up a tour of the campus and a meeting with an advisor to get everything ready. :)
Any tips on how to prepare yourself to start nursing school? I’m transfering from being a music education major. :P

Eee, excitement!!! 2 years ago

So, in the past two days I’ve heard from two out of three of the schools I applied to…and I was accepted into both!! I’ve put a call into the final school to check the status of my application. This is so much harder than I thought it was going to be, just to even get into the school…and then from there to get into the actual nursing major! There are waiting lists at most schools after you finish your pre-reqs before you can even begin your nursing curriculum. I’m crossing my fingers that I get accepted into the third school, but that one sounds like the only one that I’m guaranteed to be in and out in four years without any waiting.
I’m just excited to see that this is actually happening. :)
