I still want to do this. Tho I’ll have to admit I’m not doing so well with it! hmmm…I’ve read more books, but what were they?
The Greatest Generation, by Tom Brokaw…wonderful. (I read the sequel to it a couple of years ago.)
Up the Sandbox, by Anne Richardson Roiphe So-so.
Maybe (Maybe Not), by Robert Fulghum. I got a lot of laughs from his essay on tools!
And right now, Fodors ‘05 Mexico
and 1,000 Places to See Before You Die, by Patricia Schultz. This one I find is more an index of expensive hotels. (She SAYS they are ‘moderate’ but we do not agree on that!)

This is the book chosen by the book discussion group. I read most of it and gave up. Couldn’t stay interested. I don’t think I’m going to be able to make it to the next meeting so it won’t matter anyway. I’ll get another A. Shreve book!
hmmmm….Well, I think I’ll stop commenting on the books I read. I liked this one…mostly. (I’m beginning to think I’m a bit weird, the things that turn me off!) What I really want to do next is to read what I think is her first book, Eden Close. But the book discussion group I’m a part of has chosen something else, so better get on that for now.
Despite it’s good reviews and assurances that I’d like this by chapter 3 or so, it took me ‘til chapter 19 to get there. By then I did begin to get caught up in it. The ending was interestiong in that several things were not resolved, which I pretty much like. In general tho…this author is not one I’ll read again (...really, this time!) I guess it’s a good thing that there are so many different tastes out there in reader land!
Everything He Ever Wanted…Anita Shreve
Another good one, but almost hard to believe it was written by this author…so different from her others. Reminiscences of an old man. Ending a bit unfulfilling, I guess because I was hoping for another surprise ending. Not my favorite.
Now I’m going to start another O’Dell, on the recommendation of my daughter. We’ll see.
Well, I loved this book until I was about 3/4 of the way through. The characters are so well done, the plot intriguing. I think I’m too old fashioned for all the gross details tho. It ended up turning me off. Probably won’t attempt reading any more O’Dell.
Sea Glass, Anita Shreve.
I loved this book. One of those you want to keep reading at the same time you are hating to get to the end of! So interesting, the way she introduces you to one person at a time and then little by little brings them all together. It’s so like real life…the people that over the years have become entwined in my life all had their own stories long before they became part of mine. Why is that so mind-boggling?
