I’m currently reading Brian Greene’s “The Elegant Universe: Superstrings, Hidden Dimensions, and the Quest for the Ultimate Theory”- so that should cover the basics :)

I already get the general idea or ‘view’ that String/ M-Theory/ is putting forward, from reading around general pop-sci & having seen Greene’s 3 part Nova/BBC show of the same tile of said book.
