Rest stroke might be a bit too heavy-handed (or should I say heavy-fingered? :p) on some of the open strings, even though they’re being played against bass notes. Maybe a lighter rest stroke will suffice.
It’s not so straightforward trying to get a good rest stroke with the ring finger due to the awkward shape of my nails… but after reassessing my technique, I’ve found it’s a lot better if I try to perform it by having more of the middle part of the nail play the string. This helps to avoid the clicking sound and the nail getting caught up on the string.
Rethink approach to A#/E harmony, so that the B string can ring through. Perhaps don’t barré with middle, but play both individually with index and middle.
Make sure you barré high enough with the half-barré, which is needed in order to ensure the high E string isn’t prevented from ringing through. Would help to avoid crazy finger/wrist angles that would otherwise result from barring lower.
You could end the piece with artificial harmonics over a nice chord, as well as some lead playing before it.
Nail of fingerpicking hand kept getting stuck during rest stroke. I filed it down some, which seemed to help a little; however, I may have to perform future rest strokes with the flesh of the thumb as this has been a recurring problem.
Remember, the key here is to barré not so high up and to keep the index finger as straight as possible.
