When I finished my undergraduate career, it was hard to consider going right back to school. I got my BS in CompSci and didn’t know what I’d want to study next. A masters in CS was in the mix, as well as the MBA and a few other options.
But after working a year, I switched jobs and found a program through a local university that was being taught on-site at my new company. I signed up for it and 2 1/2 years later had my MS in Information Systems. It wasn’t the route I thought I’d take, but it introduced me to some business ideas combined with a technical application. Plus they waived a lot of the requirements for applying since they had a relationship with my job and there was very little out-of-pocket costs for me. I graduated with a 4.0 and have wanted to continue with my MBA since.
The problem is that the company policy changed and now they only pay for one graduate degree over a lifetime.
So this goal exists somewhere on the horizon, and I think I’m about 5 years away from enrolling. I can still graduate by the time I’m 40 and I’ll have plenty of experience under my belt.
I just have to take my skills to a new company and get them to cover the costs. I certainly don’t want to have to face a whole new batch of bills and loans again.
