Here’s a quote I at first found funny, but then made me think a lot. To me it feels surprisingly true and powerful:
It is astonishing just how much of what we are can be tied to the beds we wake up in in the morning, and it is astonishing how fragile that can be.
From Neil Gaiman’s Coraline.

I’m usually listening to a specific CD when I read a book. This helps me to lose myself in the book. Also often as a result one will bring back memories of the other, which is fun.
So here’s my list of this year’s combinations:
| Book | CD |
| Philip Pullman: His Dark Materials | Howard Shore: The Lord Of The Rings |
| Neil Gaiman: American Gods | Alexandre Desplat: The Golden Compass |
| Tsugumi Ohba: Death Note | Alexandre Desplat: The Golden Compass |
| Ken Follett: The Pillars of the Earth | Amy Winehouse: Back to Black |
| Ken Follett: World Without End | Amy Winehouse: Back to Black |
| Hape Kerkeling: Ich bin dann mal weg | John Williams: Memoirs Of A Geisha |
| Nick Bantock: The Griffin & Sabine Trilogy | Björk: Vespertine |
| Margaret Atwood: Oryx and Crake | Björk: Vespertine |

Weeks going by
I sometimes feel that a week goes by as if in a haze. I go to work until I’m tired, have some food, have a little time for myself before getting up the next morning for more of that. At the end of the week, when someone asks me how it was, I can hardly remember any details.
This seems to be another week like that.
So here I am, stopping and wondering, is this really how I want my days to go by ? Do I feel like I have an alternative ?

When I came upon this in the book1 I read yesterday, I had to stop, reread it and was suddenly lost in thought:
Everything is so fragile. There’s so much conflict, so much pain. You keep waiting for the dust to settle and then you realize this is it; the dust is your life going on. If Happy comes along – that weird unbearable delight that’s actual Happy – I think you have to grab it while you can. You take what you can get, ‘cause it’s here and then gone.
I realize this is in essence Carpe diem, but worded like this it moved me much more.
the dust is your life going on
I will obviously have to do some more soul-searching on this, to find out why it feels like this hits so close to home.
