It’s been a while since I’ve read a book in a day. Granted, this was a short book – but it more than made up for it with the fun it provided :)
So this was Coraline by Neil Gaiman.
I’m so glad I took the last chance to see the movie earlier this year. It was wonderful and I probably wouldn’t have read the novel otherwise.

first regular book since, oh, a while. It continues to be difficult to do some reading with the kittens around. They don’t like me to sit still…
So I’ve chose a fairly short one and one where I know the story, due to having seen its (wonderful) movie version: Coraline.

I’ve found it difficult to get back into reading books with the kittens around.
But over the last week I’ve had the idea and actually managed to read up on some of my Comics Trade Paperbacks that had accumulated here.
I find it easier to read short sections and stop, when the kittens demand attention than with a regular book.
And they’re fun :)

I almost forgot to put this here, since I finished it during my summer vacation:
This book is the sequel to Wicked: Son of a Witch by Gregory Maguire.
Again I found the setting, the world richly imagined. I enjoyed reading this.
However the end was very much “Please read the third book in this trilogy.” Oh well, at least #3 came out in paperback recently…

it felt extra nice being able to read my book, after I hadn’t been able to for a noticeable time.
I’d really like to continue in the coming week, I hope I have enough time.

I had bought this book after seeing the musical, which I enjoyed a lot and also to have something smaller, lighter after the last couple of big books I read.
The book was Wicked by Gregory Maguire.
I was surprised to find out it was much more adult than the show. In fact by the end of it, I have come to the conclusion that in my opinion the musical and the book don’t share much more than the names and general feel of the characters. It’s that different.
It was fun to read about this richly imagined world, that never really contradicted the original material, but made it so much darker and real.
Hey, I think any book that makes you feel for the Wicked Witch of the West is a winner !
Was it perfect ? No, a couple of things didn’t make sense and especially the ending felt very rushed. Still, I felt compelled enough to pick up the next book in which by now is a series of three.

reading my book !
Last week has been exceptionally mentally exhausting at work. I had suspected I’d need lots of sleep to find myself again.
But as it turns out, reading seems to have been the better remedy :)
I’m sure glad I was able to do this today. It was fun.

the next book yesterday. I chose something smaller this time around at only 538 smaller pages. I hope I’ll be somewhat quicker with this one.

When I sat down today to continue reading my current book, seeing as not too many pages were left, I couldn’t put it down until I finished it up. Having turned the final page was a very exhilarating feeling.
The book was Sarum by Edward Rutherfurd.
This was a great read. I had a lot of fun, you got to know the many all too human characters, throughout all that time covered.
It took me very long to read this, but none of that was the book’s fault. In fact, it’s the sole reason I made that trip to Salisbury and Stonehenge earlier in the year !
What fun :)
