Well, I feel this is accomplished now. I have all the necessary things and feel good in my new home.
Sure, there are more things I’ll want to do, but from now on I’ll consider them improvements !

So, the kitchen got finished in the morning. Since then I’ve spent most of the day unpacking my kitchen-stuff, that had still been hibernating in boxes. Then I arranged, cleaned and rearranged a lot. Good thing I had the day off, that took me a long time and might have otherwise only been possible over the course of several days. But this way, even though I’m now rather tired, I’m pretty much set up. Nice !
So most of the kitchen was built today. All the equipment is set up and the cupboards are installed. The guys will be here again tomorrow for a short time to install the last couple of things for the dishwasher.
Now my task will be to decide where I want to put what, so that it’ll be the most useful and least clutter-able in the future.
Tomorrow’s finally the appointment for the “kitchen-builders” to come here and build me a real kitchen. So today I took everything in my temporary kitchen and moved it to a different room. I guess that means I switched my temporary kitchen to an even more temporary kitchen. <g>
There’s really one major thing left and then I can consider this goal achieved: The kitchen still needs to built. This will finally happen next week.
On top of the obvious benefits, this is especially important, because my kitchen-things are still stored in several boxes, which make the whole place still look rather unfinished.
So today I’ve collected the empty moving boxes, tied them together in threes and took them to the basement. The room they were in looks much better now, amazing how much space empty, “flat” boxes can take up…
There are several now empty boxes from moving, that I need to maybe tie together and take to the basement. For some reason, this hasn’t felt like a priority so far. But there’s no reason for them to stay here and make the place feel cluttered. So I want to do that soon.
Today the main kitchen equipment arrived. The dishwasher, the stove and oven.
This almost turned into a disaster… Picture these things, stacked high, packaged into one package. Big, bulky and heavy. Well the delivery person was sent here alone and was intending to leave it all downstairs, either blocking the entry for all or letting it stand in the rain. After some discussing this I was so far already to have him take it back, so I could arrange for a better solution.
Well, some more convincing and some bribery later and he agreed to take it apart and help me get it upstairs.
All the other deliveries I had so far were handled by two people and taking it into the apartment was always part of the service.
Sometimes you really gotta wonder…
Anyway they’re here now, now to wait for the kitchen builder.
And today I assembled the fifth of the four shelves.
<g> Yeah, I decided to go out and get a fifth one, at half the size as the other ones, but with several extra “board pieces”, so I can have tighter spaces. The theory was that this would enable me to store those various strange-shaped little things and also things like manuals in all sizes.
And having just put several things in, I’m pleased to report, this works not only in theory !
I assembled that last of the four shelves today and I must say they do look very nice :)
Later I continued unpacking boxes, which went slower today, since I’ve pretty much done the books, CDs and DVDs. What is left now are small things, things in strange shapes, etc. I’ll need to think of some kind of container, hmm…
