.DaveFerEvery night here in Chiclayo I pass at least 3 kids (under 13) on the street … sometimes at like 4.30 am. I KNOW they are hungry because when I hand them a box of leftover pizza, they lunge for it and rip it open.
So my new habit is to always carry out untouched leftovers and hand them to a kid on the street AND/OR buy them a burger from a street vendor.
I also sometimes sit and talk with them and try to find out their situation. Where they live or don’t live. Where are their parents? Why don’t they go home? Without being judgemental or lecturing them. Very neutral tone … to try to get the truth from them.
It’s a super easy way to help others who are too young to work even if they wanted to. Hope you will all do the same.
