My #1 greatest weakness is probably internet surfing procrastination. I need a sustained assault on this problem so I can enjoy the benefits of internet access without the costs.
Darnit, I’m Screwing up on this right now. I need to focus, and get some important stuff done before I have to go back to work at aroun 1pm.
Some good tips on how to be more productive from Ed Boyden (MIT Media Lab, Technology Review). I’m posting a heavily edited summary. Follow the link for the full version.

“How to Think
1. Synthesize new ideas constantly.
2. Learn how to learn (rapidly).
3. Work backward from your goal.
4. Always have a long-term plan.
5. Make contingency maps.
6. Collaborate.
7. Make your mistakes quickly.
8. As you develop skills, write up best-practices protocols.
9. Document everything obsessively.
10. Keep it simple.
I really like what I call logarithmic time planning, in which events that are close at hand are scheduled with finer resolution than events that are far off.”
I just wasted 1 1/2 to 2 hours on the internet. It pisses me off. I’m getting off in 3 minutes, and then I’ll stay of for at least 6 hours. But I need longer term prophylactic solutions to this problem. Advice?
