United Way is a big corporation no different from any other. After they pay themeselves million-dollar salaries, then anything left over they might dole out to a few organizations in order to appear legitimate.
Volunteer your time directly, with someone who really needs the help. Helping a “middleman” is pointless unless you’re just trying to make yourself feel better. There are TONS of better options than organizations like United Way.
