I will organize my desks by month’s end.

If I can see through the desk it is clean. Simple and easy to figure out. I share a desk at work with 2 other people and a few hundred volunteers. It is basically where people drop off problems. It isn’t clean. Neither is my secondary pull out desk at home- but they will be.
Plop everything in a box!
I’ll get to it later, but if I don’t get to it with in a month, it all goes out the door.
I have to have a clean desk at home before school starts!
It’s been two weeks and I can still see the bottom of my desk. I am not efficiently using my organization systems, but they are in place to an extent. One thing that helps is a pad that is set to help me keep track of all the things that pop up on a daily basis that distract me from my main tasks.
Eventually I plan to use modified forms of organizational techniques found on 43folders. Which are basically modified forms of GTD. For now, as my part time admin. assistant is not helping with organization, I have to work on this by my self. (Ultimately, I have to find ways of organizing myself.) The OmniGroup, makers of OmniGrafle, etc… have a new product in beta, OmniFocus. It is a little too much of a micro-management of my time, but it may be just what I am looking for. I refuse to have a DayTimer or similar product in my life, as I don’t need another thing to lug around. I carry my laptop around with me most places, so that’s what I need to organize my wold needs to be run through it.
43folders did help me get my desk more organized. Right now, I have a set of files I access regularly in a hanger on my file cabinet. In my file cabinet are files that I don’t access often.
At the end of this fiscal year, I plan to add some more techniques to keeping my desk clear.
I can see my desk!
Over the next 4 days I am going to do several things.
- Go through contact information folder and update my work contact list.
- Go through and sort my media file.
- Go through my priority (this is to be done this week)
- Sort through the box of paper that is now sitting waiting to be gone through.
- Get my secondary drives back on line !
- Get the office to move all of their files to the NAS for backup
- Burn physical DVDs for secondary backup and off site storage.
- Get together with my admin. asst. to come up with a to do list for the end of fiscal 06 (At the end of June).
Funny, I ran into my old admin. asst. today. I miss her company. We are going to grab lunch later on this week.
Tonight I will toss, shred, file, or recycle all of the papers on my coffee table. My coffee table is my desk at home, as I have my desk piled with non-perishable groceries. I will also file the groceries, and then move my desk back inside.
In this case it’s true. I just spent $70 on file folders, and a file box, and I am going to organize my desk as I do the office, buy using a large grid board.
Now I need to set a deadline, get a label maker, and get my part-time admin. assistant to help me with the project.
