I didn’t have six months saved, but I did have some saved when I got laid off. What this meant was that I could afford to pay my bills at the same rate—even though I don’t have as much coming in right now.

Painful, but worth the effort.
Still have quite a ways for six months, though.
I started a new job and am eligible for a 401k for the first time this year. Spouse and I had a talk and decided that we could afford to max out the $15k, so this will severely interfere with my savings plans (since I’d like to save not only for a 401k, but also outside a 401k).
Not doing too well on this one, but I have been building up savings slowly. Right now, I’m at about 1/10 of a month. Obviously, I need to ramp this up to meet this goal, but I’m still dealing with paying down debt, too.
