Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

This addiction is going over the top! I log in first thing in the morning, I am on all day from work, get home and keep checking, its the last thing I do before bed… Please! there are thousand more productive things that I could be doing like reading, working out, studying, WORKING, have REAL contact with people.

So I am first going to identify the most common things I do on FB and decide if they really worth the time I waste:

1. Check on the boyfriend.

PROS: He is deployed in Iraq right now, FB help us keep in touch, I love to log in and find the cute little notes he writes on my wall or the comments on my photos, also I get to see if he logged in by the post on his wall, yep thats like stalking him I admit, but when your man is so far away, the most minimum contact you have with him, like the comment he posts on somebody’s else photo makes you smile.

CONS: I get jeleous everytime a hot girl I dont know post on his wall, he facebook friends some of his exes and I hate it. I also get a little upset knowing he was online and he didnt email me.

2. Keep in touch with friends.

PROS: My girls and I are connected all day from work, we share the latest news and make plans for the weekend, one of them just moved, so it helps us keeping in touch. I also have several good friends living on different countries, sometimes we are too busy for writing long emails about whats going on, so checking our pictures and statuses give us a general glance of our lives. Its easier, cheaper and more practical than calling or texting.

CONS: I dont see many cons on here…

3. Check on exes and bf’s exes.

PROS: I often check my mans exes page and it makes me realize how much prettier, skinner, smarter than them I am haha, it feeds my ego.

CONS: This the lamest! There is a reason that we broke up for, so why the hell do I have to check on my exes? I am really happy in my current relationship but I cant help getting a little jealous about thier new girls. I also get envious if something really good is happening to bf’s exes or kinda glad is they are going trough something bad, this is sick I know, I dont like it.

4. Check on people from my past.

PROS: Seriously?

CONS: From kindergarden classmates to the woman who use to do my nails on college, I have a bunch of people I really dont care about on FB. Its not bad knowing that my parents neightbor daughter just had a new baby or that my friends aunt who is 40 finally is getting married, but how do all those events afftect my life? I could live without all the info…

5. Check on stangers.

PROS: Mmmm I cant find a pro…oh c’mon we all are a little vouyerist, I guess I just compare people lives with mine, see where I am, what I have done, where am I going.

CONS: What a waste of time.

6. Show the world my wonderful life.

PROS: Again an ego feeder, I have a busy social life, a good job, a wonderfull boyfriend, I have traveled to many places and I dont hesitate on uploading all the photos so people know how happy I am.

CONS: All the sudden I realize I live my life,I go to places, say and do things for other people to envy me, really? Do they care? Who know and who cares. Those people who care know the real me. This is the Second lamest!
