Getting enough sleep is one of the fundamental elements of taking care of ones’ self, and yet I manage to let it slip. The last few nights I’ve been awake until after 2:00, and it shows – in my mood, my appearance, my work habits, everything. The effects of sleep loss are accumulating, nonetheless, I have this childlike reistance to go to bed when I need to. I need to make this a priority again. As a motivator, I just need to pay close attention to and remind myself of all of the benefits.
(Painting is “Starry Night over the Rhone,” by Van Gogh in 1888, a year before his now wildly famous “Starry Night.”)
