I just wrote a letter to the little boy I sponsor through Christian Children’s Fund. It feels great to be connected to someone on another continent through the simple human gesture of putting pen to paper. It’s good.
(Painting is Jan Vermeer’s “Lady writing a Letter with her Maid,” circa 1670).

Thanks to GQkudzo for cheering my goal to get a fish, and for having this great goal, write letters, on his list, where I found it, commented on it, and convinced myself to do the same. I’ll excerpt from the comment I left him: “Much of what we know of history in general, and of individuals lives in particular, has come from the letters they left behind. What will future generations know of our lives, passions, fears, if no one commits them to paper? The Library at Alexandria burnt to the ground, I fear that the data bytes that stores our emails and lists of 43 things are much more vulnerable to obliteration.” I especially like the idea of writing letters because I feel like it contributes to my goal of doing something creative everyday; in fact, I’m not sure I should strictly count it as a separate goal, but I want to go on record with the intention. As its an ongoing process, there won’t be any precise moment of accomplishment; I just want it to be part of my life.
