I know the theory. I know I need to be clear and simple, and not come across as desperate. I just need to resist reverting to type, giving in to my emotions because when I do, nothing ever works. I repel.
Come on man.
Dust it off.

Its to be confirmed tomorrow but I have potentially made 70 pounds in a day today. Not bad for a first day for a new client, plus, had so much fun and banter! Everything seems plain sailing when I’ m happy :-)
Help people to take control of their health, finances and beliefs, rather than accepting what has been imposed on them without even checking if it works. It’s hard to get people excited and involved. After all, we are creatures of habits, we dont tend to like change even if its necessary. Am I right? But giving up and do something easier doesnt appeal to me, for some reason…I want to make a difference to peoples lives. May be i’ll fail, but somehow, that doesnt bother me. Its still worth a try, isn’t it?
...that I truly work for myself. I’m my own boss, start when I want, finish when I want. It’s kind of new. Feeling a bit apprehensive. Success or failure is all down to me now. EEEK!
This skill, like most others, require a lot of practice to master. Reading, listening or even pondering about it isnt gonna do the trick. It definitely takes getting out there and doing it again and again and again…
Success today, at long last! One sale, bit of recognition. Almost did another 3. Next time, I’ll be more assertive. One of them was just on the fence, should have helped him a bit more :P
- Your body language isn’t matching what you say. If you have an exciting product/opportunity you’re pitching, it should show. No need to overdo it, but be excited!
- Your tone of voice isn’t matching what you say. Excitement in your voice will naturally trigger the appropriate body language. Forget being hot or tired. Focus on your prospect.
- Your language isn’t clear and simple. If you’re like me and tend to waffle on about facts and figures, don’t unless the prospect is asking for them. Also make your sentences short and snappy. Get to the point quickly before you lose their attention.
- You didn’t build rapport. If you pitch them without making them feel good about themselves in a way or another, by making them laugh, or finding common ground or complimenting them or conversing a bit with them, you don’t give them the opportunity to buy into you. People buy people.
This is what I have learnt in 3 days. Next week, I’m smashin everything up. Cause It’s all clicking into place.
I keep reverting to type. It’s hard to switch off that unsuccessful automatic pilot and permanently switch on the learning of new disciplines. I keep stalling. I hope I’m not as far off as I think! :/
No success today…but more reminders.
Reminder #1: Nod and smile. Apparently I have a disarming smile. Have to remember to use it (and nod too)
Reminder #2: Make it snappy cause people have short attention spans.short sentences, get to the point quickly.
Reminder #3: K.I.S.S (Keep It Short and Simple) positive and negative peeps. There is a reason why we have 2 ears but only one mouth. Active listening is a must so you spend time explaining things to those on the fence ONLY.
Reminder #4: It’s all about the person you’re talking to. Be a friend. that’s 98% of the job.
I was told this story by one of my colleagues. It’s a bit like the tortoise and the hare or Lafontaine’s fable of the lion and the rat.
The wind and the sun were arguing over who was the strongest. The moon suggested they had a competition to settle this. They were to get a man’s coat off his back. The wind blew hurricanes but the man held tighter to his coat. When the wind had exhausted all its options, it was the sun’s turn to have a go.He just shone gradually warmer until the man took his coat off of his own accord.
Food for thought.
