I love this goal

http://www.43things.com/things/view/4544421/write-everyday-as-if-it-was-my-job-for-a-minimum-of-three-months-or-more-if-i-can-achieve-it-at-least-500-words-each-day

Maybe I need a kick in the butt?

I’m tempted try try one of these, but I’m afraid of setting myself up for failure:

Perhaps preparing for the November event will motivate me to get into the habit now?

Need to put aside a block of time

I’m going to have to get more serious about my time management. If I don’t schedule some time to write, I’m going to continue to blow this off. My last entry on this goal was almost two years ago, which is a little scary. I doubt I can make a living as a writer, but I definetly won’t make anything unless I create and finish some stuff that I can sell.

Now that my lessons are in the late morning and early afternoon, maybe I can plan to write from 4 to 6pm, or maybe 5 to 7pm? Before I started my horse farm and when I was taking writing classes, this was so much easier. Maybe I should join an online writing group so that I can get some external motivation?

Yet Another Restart

I know that this is an immensely time consuming goal that will take at least one hour per day, preferably two to four, to accomplish. How to fit that in? I’m also trying to get into the habit of riding every morning, which would normally be my preferred time to write. I need to push some other things to the wall, or this goal will remain in permanent limbo.

I generally only watch movies or TV when I’m doing something mindless, or am just too tired to concentrate on anything else. So, that’s a block of time I can’t use.

Maybe if I slow down my home improvement projects? Repairs and maintenance have to be done, but upgrades can be stretched out a bit. They seem to be a never ending job, maybe I can just stick to one at a time? That means some serious prioritizing.

I think I need to ask myself: what’s really the most important thing for me to be doing right now? Maybe cut down my 43 Things time? Posting here certainly seems to keep me focused on my goals, so I’d like to keep doing it. I guess I’ll have to keep Internet surfing to a minimum and post here or on my blogs instead.

That still leaves me with a one to four hour block to find to write fiction. If I do it everyday, I’m more likely to keep it up. Maybe afternoons, when it’s too hot to be outside anyway. Perhaps 3 to 5 PM? Maybe just an hour per day to start?

I guess it’s easy to see why so many people want to write a book, yet so few actually do. Even less than that write a good book. Self editing takes up a huge percentage of that writing block and I think many writers skip that step and release utter crap. I enjoy good writing, I’d hate to put my name on something I didn’t want to read.

Two Words: Daily Pages

Apparently, I will never actually have any “free time.” So, I’m going to try to write something everyday, even if it’s just a blog entry on my farm site. Hopefully, this will eventually turn into the raw material for a decent non fiction horse breeding book. Hey, it could happen.

Untitled

I still want to do this, but it’s getting pushed to the wall until I wrap my horse business up.
