Africa's Lost Child has written 2 entries about this goal

I learned.... 2 years ago

Learned a lot today in regards to Haiti and Thailand…..and lupus too. I feel smarter!

Hmm, let's see.... 2 years ago

What do I want to know more about? A LOT!! I just can’t think of them all right now. Hmmm…

1) Fair trade
(1) Fair trade’s strategic intent is to deliberately work with marginalised producers and workers in order to help them move from a position of vulnerability to security and economic self-sufficiency.
(2) Fair trade is a strategy for poverty alleviation and sustainable development.
(3) Fair trade also includes capacity building, payment of a fair price, gender equity, better work conditions, environmental & protection. [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fair_trade]

2) Bottled water…is there a major difference among them? I really don’t think so. Hmmm…

3) Communism. I get the general idea, but…

4) The job market in Hawaii. Because I really am retiring there.

5) Womanism. All I know is Alice Walker came up with this term. Is it really being practiced though?

6) The Black man on the back of the $2 bill. Is this true? Is he really Black?

7) Psychological factors/causes of procrastination.
(1) Most people procrastinate because they pursue perfectionism, are fearful of doing badly at the task, or are simply too disorganized with their time and resources.
(2) Disorganization is probably the largest cause of procrastination, especially amongst students.
(3) For most procrastinators, it’s a good idea to keep a to-do list every day of things that should be accomplished for both the day and the week. [http://psychcentral.com/library/procrastination.html]

8) The history of Haiti.
(1) The first and only successful slave revolt happened in Haiti making them 1 of 3 independent African nations (the others being Liberia and Ethiopia).
(2) 80% of Haitians in Haiti live in poverty.
(3) Haiti’s last president Jean-Jacques was removed from office in 2004, and their new President seems to be bringing in more revenue—-Haiti has close and positive ties with Venzuela.
....alright Haiti!!! Mwen fatigue (of all your mistreatment, that is!)

9) The history of the Dominican Republic.

10) Inflation

11) Etymology

12) Black scientists

13) What is the carburetor in a car for?
(1) It’s a device that blends air and fuel for an internal combustion engine.
(2) A majority of motorcycles still utilize carburetors due to lower cost, but as of 2005, many new models are now being introduced with fuel injection.
(3) Carburetors are still found in small engines and in older or specialized automobiles, such as those designed for stock car racing. [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carburetor]

14) The real INFO about fast food joints.

15) Black venacular (aka slang or ebonics)

16) Armadillos (lol, random, I know)

17) Sex trafficking…is anything MAJOR being done to alleviate this?

18) LifetimeTV—-is a woman at the top?

19) Lupus:
(1) Affects mostly women of color (Black, West Indian, Chinese)
(2) Lupus attacks the immune system and it has no cure.
(3) Lupus is Latin for “Wolf”
....I actually learned a lot, but I can only share 3.

20) Black Indians

21) Black people on the West Coast and the midwest. I’ve always only learned about Black folx in the North/South.

22) Speech impediments

23) The downsides of breast reductions.

24) The Amish.

25) Homeopathy

26) Post Hurricane Katrina New Orleans

27) The Patriot Act

28) Hispanics and Catholicism

29) Ways to get my blood pressure down.

30) 1970’s Blaxploitation films.

(1) The white characters in these films are usually corrupt and racist cops (Okay, like that’s not an exaggeration—-that’s real!)
(2) Movies usually took place in the North or mid-west. BUT..if they were in the South, they were usually on a plantation.
(3) My thoughts are ambiguous on these films….they were created FOR a Black audience, but did film makers disregard how Black folks would be perceived from non-Black audiences? The men were macho, chauvinistic and violent and the women were over-sexualized and used their bodies carelessly. This movement of these films also spearheaded the release of funk and soul music (one of my favorite genres).....kind of glad it’s still not around but grateful for its apperance nonetheless. It gave us a voice (not necessarily a positive one) and allowed us to be the heroes of our own films.

31) Socialism (I’ve studied this, but I want to know more)

32) 3 new HOT tech advances/inventions.

33) Facts about Turks & Caicos. Since I am going there next month.

34) Natural hair colors for Black hair.

35) TV1…can they be successful at depicting Black people in a better manner than BET?

36) What careers do people with Africana Studies majors do? (besides go into education)

37) Thailand
....so obsessed with wanting to go here.
(1) Thai means “freedom” and this countries capital, Bangkok, is one of the largest in the world.
(2) Their staple crop is rice and Thailand is one of the largest importers of rice (yuuum, jasmine rice too).
(3) Thailand is in South East Asia and their form of democracy is a hereditary monarch.

38) Car insurance….I get it, pay for it…but don’t even know what’s covered.

39) My credit score.

40) Immigration

41) Check out the platforms of Obama and Clinton and NOT get caught in the idea of just voting for them because they are Black and a female.

42) Electoral college (does my vote count? If not….why am I voting?)

43) Stocks/bonds
