The 3/50 Project is fairly simple. It’s a way to support community-run businesses and contribute to your local economy. Basically, you pick three locally-owned independent businesses – a brick-and-mortar location, no chain stores – and spend $50 at each of them per month. There’s a website you can go to for more information, but that’s the general idea.
I already spend close to $150 at locally-owned independent businesses; I shop at 2 locally-run comic stores, and there’s a Japanese restaurant I eat at almost every month. But this is a way of expanding that beyond what I already do. I think that if I find at least one more local business that I can syphon $50 to, then I think I can definitely say that I’m a part of the 3/50 trend. I’ll also check to see that the stores I do shop at fit the criteria; I’m pretty sure they do, but it doesn’t hurt to be thorough.
