Initially for my goal of writing for 10 minutes every day, I wrote longhand in a little scribbler; short stories or whatever. But I didn’t have much motivation to do that. I realized that I was really motivated to keep working on my NaNo novel. It’s been a tough slog: trying to get back into the story with characters I’ve sometimes completely forgotten about, but I worked through a lot of rough patches and yesterday, I wrote for over ten minutes solid, adding new material instead of just re-working awkward stuff that had made me stop working in the first place. It didn’t feel as good as it used to, but it didn’t feel too bad either. So who knows. Maybe this isn’t a lost cause after all.

After spending four months saying “I’m too busy to finish it,” I took some time over the long weekend to re-read what I’d written, and when I’d done that I just kept writing. I’ve added 3000 words to it since Friday, and I’m trying to write at least a little every two days. So far so good. I might get this one finished after all.
So I wrote over 50k words last month but the book’s not over (although I wrapped eight months up quickly in one sentence and put “The End” on it in order to make myself feel like I’d ‘finished’). Can I keep writing when there’s no NaNo network there? Time will tell.
