I’m getting interested in drawing fantasy. I’ve been drawing dragons recently, and I might try drawing something else, just to see what I can come up with. Lately I’ve been covering every piece of paper I can get my hands on with scribbles and squiggles, it reminds me of my books when I went to school. (Back in the Dark Ages, that was!)

Well, at least I'm trying! 2 years ago

Here’s how I’ll know I’m improving: when I draw a child who looks like a child. I did a sketch of a child from a book cover this morning, and my picture doesn’t look right. The little girl I was trying to draw, looks about 40 in my drawing. Well, if that’s the case, I don’t think I’ll try a self portrait any time soon…

a drawing game to play. 2 years ago

It’s school holiday time, and that means finding (inexpensive) ways to entertain the children. I remembered a game I played when I was a child. All you need is a dice, a pencil and paper, and two or more participants.

The object of the game is to draw a beetle. You take turns to throw the dice, and the number on the dice tells you what part of your beetle to draw. You need a five or six to begin. If you get a five, you can draw your beetle’s head, and if you get a six, you draw the beatle’s body. This is what each number means:
1= antenna (draw an antenna)
2= eye
3= leg
4= tail
5= head
6= body

To draw your completed beetle, you need two eyes, two antennas and six legs. The first person to complete drawing their beetle, wins the game.

My son and I were having fun playing this game, and then we decided to draw monsters and assigned body parts to different numbers., We decided our monsters would have eight eyes, three legs, four arms and two horns. It ended up being a very creative picture,and a creative game. I must say, my five year old son draws scarier monsters than I do!

So, drawing doesn’t have to be serious, as this was very silly, but it’s a fun way to bond with your children at the same time.
