the riverfront condo was sold to someone else. My heart is broken.

Sunday night 2 weeks ago

we went through a condo that is nestled right in between the Mississippi River and the bike path, and unexpectedly fell in love with it, despite the somewhat major changes we want to make. It just feels like home.

However, we need to sell our house first, so it may never become ours. It is priced very reasonably, for riverfront property, especially. I doubt it will languish on the market, even though it does have a hideous kitchen. :) Here is the view from the living room window.

The hunt continues ... 3 weeks ago

Last night we went through a condo that is a contender. We’ve developed an Excel file to rate and make comments on the different houses that are still in the running, which is kind of fun. This weekend we’ll be seeing at least 3 more houses/condos.

Uhhh, 3 weeks ago

one more house to buy is off the list – the one we went through tonight reeked of cat piss. Ewwww!

Working hard 3 weeks ago

on this. My house is listed, which I have to admit freaks me out just a bit, now that the time has really arrived. We started construction on this place 16 years ago, and I’ve never lived anywhere for such a long time.

I have 7 places bookmarked that might be possibilities of places to move to, and we just need to find time to look at them all and decide what we really want to do. 2 bedroom condo or 5 bedroom older home near the river bike path and nearly everything else? Which city & state?

The people who went through our house yesterday sounded fairly serious, but no offer yet. It’s nice to be in a situation where we don’t have time constraints or school districts to worry about. But I still wish we were making the jump to CA now. :)

Some progress 4 weeks ago

The For Sale By Owner photographer came by Monday and put up the yard sign to list our house, though the actual online listing won’t be up until tomorrow.

Tonight we are getting our problematic Youngest Daughter moved into an apartment, which will also mean getting rid of some of the house clutter, especially in the basement.

I’m also in the midst of arranging to go through a house or two we’re considering, and we’ve been talking about advantages and drawbacks to each.

It should be interesting to see what happens.

The push is on 1 month ago

If the weather clears up, the photographer for the For Sale By Owner website we’ll be using to market our house is scheduled to come take pics tomorrow. I’ve been plugging away at trying to get the house as ready as possible, and really feel unprepared for this move, but it’s necessary. Digging through 32 years of not only ourcrap valuable possessions, but also our kids’, is exhausting!

I also have some potential “move-to” houses bookmarked. I’d prefer one in CA, but think that’s premature right now. :)

The appraiser 2 months ago

came today, and I should have his report by next Wednesday. Now to whip the house into shape & continue the decluttering – ugh.

I'm postponing 2 months ago

the listing until I get an appraisal to help set the listing price. A great suggestion from Boss Man.

Working on this 2 months ago

in earnest now. We are listing our house For Sale By Owner – the photographer will be coming next Wednesday and it will be official then. We’ll be moving to a much cheaper place (somewhere!), and I’m hoping this will give our family the fresh start we’ve been needing for so long. Our house is in a great neighborhood, so I hope it sells fairly quickly.
