I'm still at it.

Not only discarding the used packing boxes as they’re unloaded, but an entire garage attic full of previous owners/tenants things. Some of which was family photos, which made me sad.

Almost every day

It’s easy when you’re moving nearly 2,000 miles away! Some of it has gone via craigslist and consignment, much more has been pitched. Feels good, and helps me get organized.

Like a maniac

I am ditching “stuff” right and left – tonight I sold the kitchen table and chairs set to the nicest young couple through craigslist. They just moved to our area with their babies last weekend, and we’re all happy. :)

Got a teensy check from a couple of consigned items this week, donated to our Friends of the Library, and donated a bunch of things again at Goodwill.

Best of all, as I go I am organizing the things we’re keeping. Since we’re going smaller still, that will be even more important.

I have

really been plugging away at this, albeit slowly. And doing my utmost to organize items that make the cut and stay. Friday is our garbage collection day, and last week both the trash & recycle bins were full. Tonight I really need to tackle it again and do likewise!

Sunday Success!

I took a huge tub of consignment items today, and though the first place sadly had to close it’s doors, its sister shop in Davenport was still there and took my stuff.

I also tried to donate about 10 books (some of which I hated to part with) to donate at our library’s Friends of the Library shop – but they were closed, too. But I recalled there is a book trader shop on the way home, and ended up donating them there instead.

Though I have a looonnng way to go, it feels good to make progress!

Daily

I am doing a bit of this, at work and at home. Purging not only “stuff”, but extraneous computer files and messages, too.

Need to step it up for the move, and have also begun talking to my family about doing their part. Told Middle Daughter she really will need to sell her potter’s wheel, for instance. If she ever used the thing we’d find a way to get it moved, but she hasn’t for years.

This afternoon

I took a large bag of books, mostly hardcover, to donate at our city’s library – their Friends of the Library group takes these donations, sells them in a little room there set aside for that purpose, and the proceeds help fund the library and its programs. Win-win!

And so it begins .....

if I am going to move halfway across the country, I need to get on this! Tonight I began by discarding a basket of magazines – I fished out 2 books I think will survive the purge and pitched the rest. Then hit the basement and pitched a couple of large ziplocks full of what had been a plsstic marble run, and really shouldn’t have survived the last move. Then proceeded to my closet ….. but that’s another goal I’ll post to. :)
