As part of my planning to organize my garage with wooden shelving units that I’m designing, I realized that there really isn’t a good spot to build a workbench. If I built it where I wanted it, I wouldn’t be able to get the cars in and still close the garage. However, last night I had a brainstorm. I drew up plans for a workbench that would be affixed to the wall by a hinge. That way, I could swing it down and get the cars in. It would only hang off the wall about 6” (bench surface, rails under the surgface, and the block anchor holding ot to the wall. Then, when I need to use it, I back the car out, swing the bench up, and brace it from underneath. It should give me enough room to install a 36”x72” bench. I’m not doing heavy-duty projects, so a flexible bench like this should be all I’ll need. Plus, I can still put a peg board above the bench.
I hope to get the whole project (shelves and bench) done in the next month or two.
