X: Xenocide

After loving Ender’s Game and Speaker for the Dead, I was a little disappointed in this one. I didn’t hate it, I just wasn’t wowed.

K: Kisses from Hell

If I didn’t need a K still for this goal I probably would have passed this book by. I not really a fan of the title for this short story collection. It sounds like a bad romance novel. (Not that there’s anything wrong with a bad romance novel from time to time lol)

Overall, the stories were ok. A wide variety of different takes on vampires.

P: Pride and Prejudice

I love this book. So much in fact that my copy is falling apart. lol It’s one of my all time favorites. Mr. Darcy = swoon.

N: Nocturne

Now that ladies and gentlemen is how you write a vampire romance. I could not put this down. I meant to only read a chapter or two and then head to bed… Well three hours later and a handful of tissues later, I’m updating this instead of sleeping like I should be.

Note to self: Buy a copy of this book after the holiday season.

T: Tortall and Other Lands

Short stories aren’t usually my cup of tea, but since this was Tamora Pierce and I’m on a Tamora Pierce kick, I’d figure I’d give it a shot. I was hoping for more side stories of her main characters, but they hardly even made appearances. The last two stories in the collection were very out of place (not fantasy at all). I wish that this had more of the main characters from her different series. Overall, it was just okay.

F: Fahrenheit 451

I actually finished this a few weeks ago, but forgot to write an entry about it.

I read this back in high school and hated it. While it still wasn’t a page turner for me, working in a library and having gone through library school made me appreciate the ideas behind it much more. I don’t see it ever really losing it’s relevance either as there are always people who are trying to censor books/information.

D: Dancing the Dream

Boyfriend bought me a copy of this book two Christmases ago. I’m not usually a poetry person, but it’s MJ, so I had to have it! lol I’ve actually read it once before in either 8th or 9th grade and it definitely shows. Reading through this again I saw how many of my thoughts on life were reflected in it. Some of the essays and poems still resonate with me so much.

W: Water for Elephants

This isn’t my usual kind of book (I’m not a huge fan of books written in first person or realistic fiction), but I really enjoyed it! I couldn’t put it down.

Circus life is fascinating and this is a very well researched book, but it doesn’t read as if it’s highly researched. It reads as if it was all actually happening. According to the author a lot of it did happen, but spread between multiple traveling circuses.

C: Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister

I seem to have forgotten about this goal recently… I guess it makes sense to reopen it with a long forgotten book. Indigo gave me this to read years ago and I never got around to it.

It was a little slow to begin with. There were a lot of religious references that went over my head. In the end it was enough to keep me entertained and it was interesting to see Maguire’s take on the traditional Cinderella story.

M: The Man in the Picture

Not quite as creepy as I was hoping. While the writing is exquisite, I do wished that more had been explained. It’s a page turner, but I came away feeling unfulfilled. I don’t think it really deserves the subtitle “A Ghost Story” either.
