be brave

Being brave for me is close to the definition of being a warrior (see sanvea’s great entry on that -http://www.43things.com/entries/view/136276) and being independent. These are three concepts which are so hard for me to accept. Too often you need to be brave not only to confront your enemies, but also to overcome yourself and your affections. A brave human is not afraid of dying, but an average person never has a moral right to abandon this world. One always needs to save his/her life for someone: for parents or for kids, for beloved ones. Roughly speaking, you can’t be a real boss of your life, you can’t choose a dangerous path, ‘cause it may be hurtful for your close ones.
When I think of bravery, one episode of September 11 always occurs to me. It impressed me so much I will never forget it. Perhaps you all remember it: two men were left in the building, one of them in a wheelchair and unable to go downstairs. The other one was able to escape, but he stayed… He had a wife and kids and I hope they will never call him a traitor, ‘cause he didn’t turn traitor for that man in a wheelchair. No one can judge. I don’t know what would my choice be and what the right choice is, but his choice was heroically brave.
Nietzsche says on being brave:
“What is good?” ye ask. To be brave is good. Let the little girls say: “To be good is what is pretty, and at the same time touching”.... What matter about long life! What warrior wisheth to be spared!”
And Jimi Hendrix echoes: “I’m bold, bold as love”
