Went to practise

in torrential rain and blustery wind last night. And SO very glad I did, had a lovely night, the stormy weather died down as I travelled, and as I had no time to warm up and thing about things, I shot well in the club competition. Just about had enough petrol, Car made it home on fumes :-)

Have ordered arrows

so I can do the field shoot and not have to worry about losing too many, and have ordered a new sight for the recurve, as Tiernan stood on mine last week and broke it! Expensive things, but it was three years ago I placed my last arrow order, so that’s not too bad, and I just got the sight itself, hopefully I can make it sit in with what I have already….....

Shoot in the Irish Open

and get to practise at least every second week. My two mini-goals.

First practise of the year

did maybe ten ends, tried to work on form instead of instinctive, and by the time I stopped my finger tips were sore – I think that’s a good sign, usually I stop after half an hour and go for coffee… they are just just nice people, it’s hard to resist!! But it felt good, I am just taking it that I am starting from scratch and working on basics. Need to spend some money now, arrows and really good outdoor jacket – again, if I was willing to save for another goal that fell though, I can save for this…... I live in Ireland, I need wet weather gear!!

Irish Open is on St Patricks weekend, I go every year and help with the admin and the catering…. this year, I will aim to shoot, no matter how bad I am!!!

I will think up some specific goals

around archery as soon as I get my head around the new year. But it’s time to put my heart and mind into this.

Haven’t got the garden in order yet, but I have been out to practise twice and I think aiming to get there every second week is realistic….Did 10 ends of 10 arrows this week, which is better than the first night when I spent most of my time chatting and catching up with everybody. Fingers and shoulders are sore, and it’s a good feelilng.

Field Shoot yesterday

Nothing like a challenge :) two years since I have done a field course, and oh did it show! I was really terrible, BUT I had a lovely day and I remembered what it is I really love about this hobby…..... Aching today, and I used to be able to shoot two days without any effort. The SHAME :)

My new years resolution has hit a stumble as my club is moving next week to Greystones, a good 20 minutes further away – so it’s now a 45 minute drive, and with my wages cut and petrol prices soaring, this is a problem. But worst of all, they are changing the meet day to wednesday, the middle of the working week so very tiring having the long drive there and back straight after work, with two working days still to go, and of coure I do evening classes that day…..what to do, what to do…...there are nearer clubs of course, but I would have to pay another membership fee, plus I just really like the people in my current group. I couldn’t find a nicer bunch! I think I need to get set up in my own back garden, proper practise butt, safety net and all – be worth the expense. And I can shoot with my club every second week or so over the summer when classes aren’t on. So this goal will change to finding a way to allow me to practise easily during the week!

Coaching a beginners class at the moment, so not getting much practise in myself, but going over all the steps, and closely observing other people’s first steps, is teaching me a lot.
