Having a driving ban and 3 points already on my 2 year old license you would think I would have learned to control my speed but I still struggle to stick at the limit. It hasn’t helped that my new job is in a very rural area where its pretty much national speed limit all the way so I tend to push between 70-80mph to arrive there and get home a little quicker.
I have found I’m a much calmer driver so if I get forced to do the limit due to other drivers I don’t seem to mind but I’m always looking for my chance to go that bit faster.
Have also had a few visits to Liverpool in recent months and haven’t kept at 70. It’ll probably take me getting caught one more time to control it but I hope it doesn’t come to that and maybe I’ll try a bit harder to achieve this.
It really doesn’t help when other drivers pay no attention to the limit also. I’m not a crazy driver who has to force his way through traffic. I very rarely overtake on single carriageways.

Hmm, well not doing awesomely well with this at the minute! I am thinking of my speed more because of this site and often find myself looking at my speed more than I usually would and even tend to slow down every so often but other times I just do what I want. Recently went to Liverpool and stuck to the limit most of the way there but on the way back was well over the limit. Can’t see myself going back to Liverpool for a while though due to money so if I can ease speeding on the normal roads it may help on the motorway too?

I’ve been driving for under 2 years and have already clocked up 2 offenses, 3 points, 1 court appearance, 4 weeks disqualification and 2 hefty fines!
Although I can feel unlucky at both times I have been caught:
1 – Travelling at 30mph then approaching a 50mph zone, accellerated slightly and was flashed 30 yards from 50mph zone doing 37mph :(
2 – On Motorway at 1am, caught going through roadworks, 50mph zone at 86mph. Firstly, I really doubt I was going 86mph as when flashed I checked speed and was doing 74mph and I didnt even think I had slowed down, and even though it was 50 zone, I didnt notice the 50mph signs.
I can’t feel hard done to overall though as I have gone a lot faster or been over the limit a lot. I’ve done 140mph on the motorway before and thought nothing of it. But since my disqualification in November, I should really take notice of this. I was summoned to court and could have lost my license. I would have hated to go through all the lessons > tests procedure again and the £290 fine was also a big kick in the teeth, making it a shitty christmas.
I don’t go as fast now but sometimes, especially in 30 zones, I get impatient when clear road is in front of me and put foot down. I don’t want more points, more fines and more disqualifications. Time to lift the foot off the pedal.
