I have finally destroyed my credit cards but things got a whole lot worse before they got better in this task!!
I started this oweing £1400 on one card. I was struggling to pay it off as I could only afford £50 a month and due to the interest, this wasn’t taking anything off so I opted to go for an egg card with 9 months interest free. I did this and transferred the balance. At the same time though, I seperated from my ex girlfriend, whom we had a house together. Bills came in so the card got used for more and more. Also, Liverpool FC, my biggest passion, qualified for the Champions League Final so I used the card to take me to Athens. Before I knew it the £3,500 limit had been reached.
Unfortunately, although I paid off my first card I didn’t cancel it so when the egg card was maxed and money was still tight, I began to use the original card again and in a matter of months owed a total of £4,900 over the two accounts. The interest began to set in so I had no choice but to take out a loan to pay them both off. I am still paying interest on the loan but it is taken out of my wages the day after payday so there is no chance of me missing a payment, as well as not being able to spend any of the loan thats paid off.
Both credit cards have been cut up but the online accounts still exist. I am in the process of cancelling them both though they are both annoyingly making it difficult. I’ll gladly mark this as complete once both accounts are inactive forever! I would also recommend to anyone to go down the method I chose. Loans suck but ehri better than cards. I’ll be taking neother out ever again after this. If I can’t afford it I’ll either save or go without. Nothing is worth the stress.
