We just had a bank of lenticular clouds over our local mountains on Sunday. It was wonderful to stumble upon this site about lenticular clouds and other wondrous and beautiful cloud formations.

Sometimes beauty comes where you least expect it and leaps out at you during a time of crisis and demands that you sneak your cell phone out of your pocket and record it for others to get, too.
We’ve got an arctic cold air mass sitting over SoCal. Each night, the temperatures plunge below freezing. You’d think somebody would figure out that running the sprinklers at 2200 is a bad idea. But, it produces great beauty for early risers to notice!
A true rarity in SoCal – at least in the valleys. Pictured is a shot of Loma Linda’s South Hills. They’re usually just brown this time of year – the snow is quite visible. I haven’t seen anything like this since 1979, when it snowed in Palm Springs. My dad said the last time it snowed like this was 1953.
It’s too bad that snowshoeing and skiing are not permitted on this trail!
I knew Tom Munnecke way back when … he’s done well for himself and now blogs about forces for positive change. Here is a story about people worth admiring.
I need to do a better job of transferring from my camera phone – or better yet, use a real camera! But on a clear day, you can see …
The apparent highest peak is San Bernardino Peak. I hope to climb it (summer of 2007) and operate during a ham radio VHF contest – everything is basically line of sight, and it’s in a premier position in SoCal. Check out the map from San Bernardino Peak on 43 places for a satellite photo.
are still sprinkled with powdered sugar. They sky overhead is just a tad too unsaturated to be a solid cobalt blue. Perhaps God really does love SoCal – maybe it’s not merely the modern day Sodom or Gomorah. (Which is hardly the way I categorize things) Despite the traffic congestion, the overbuilding, the strip malls and package stores and overpriced tract housing. Despite the meth dealers and the Wallmart Shoppers, today is a beautiful day – one whose beauty smothers all else until all things become beautiful, even in spite of themselves.
on my desk. The flowing water has it’s own fluid beauty among the rest of the clutter (and I have to keep charts and papers away from it!!!). It catches the incoming light “just so” – it’s light and dark in balanced, flowing chaos.
And it sounds relaxing.
