This is actually a project I started a while ago.
My jeans tend to break after a couple of months of non-stop use, which resulted in me having wuite a lot of used jeans in my closet. It felt silly to throw all that perfectly fine fabric out, so I tried to find some use for it. Searched the internet and found some tutorials for mnake rag rugs out of used jeans. The 4 pairs of jeans I had wasn’t really enough, so I started to ask around for used jeans and ended up with several bags of jeans from a classmate and from my mother in law,
There’s quite a lot of work in making this rug: First I cut the jeans in 5 cm wide strips, then I attach the strips together and roll them up. I make a braid using the strips and then I sew them together.
I’ve already made a small rug but I still have a long way to go. Have 2 bags of jeans left that I have to cut into strips still…
The hardest work is to sew the braids together, the fabric is quite hard so my fingertips gets all soar from the work.
But it’s nice work anyway! I like the way I can recycle all these old jeans that would have just been thrown out otherwise. And, we actually really need a rug for our living room!
