It was glorious just hiking about in the 500 acre woods by my college’s campus…it wasn’t exactly the mountains, persay, but I was out there for a good 2 hours without knowing exactly where I was (in a good way…) and without seeing anyone (which is nice when you go to a small college like I do.) I had intended to go to the workout center…but really. Who wants to stairstep or run on a treadmill when you can wander through mud and fallen leaves and take breaks by lying on boulders?

my campus has a several hundred acre forest bumping right up against the dorms, absolutely packed with hiking trails. But what really seals the deal is the fact that freshwater eels (!) migrate in the creek that runs through the forest twice a year. And people take eel hikes. But I should (and will) hike more than twice a year, at least in theory.
