In High School (feels like a hundred years ago instead of only 30) I was part of a Trio called “Faith, Hope, & Charity” ... yesh, we sang at churches.
About 15 or so years ago (memory fails me as to the exact time frame) my sister (voice very much like Wynona Judd, I’d be jealous if I didn’t love her so darned much … um, sister, not Wynona on the love thing) and a friend with a venue (little bar and resturant out on the sticks behind the Redwood Curtain) and I formed a group we called “QuickSand … the little bitty band with the great big sound”. It was the most awesome time of my entire life … but it was cut short by my mother having a major stroke on my sister’s birthday. Long story short, we took care of her and couldn’t rehearse or gig any more. It was fun while it lasted.
Now I am approaching 50, and I play multiple instruments … some worse than others … and I find myself wondering if I have what it takes to get another group together. I played the accordion in public at an open mic for the first time a couple of weeks ago … what a rush that was. Acoustic guitar is my original instrument, fingerpicking mainly. In the past few years I’ve begun playing piano, keyboard, mandolin, banjo, hammered dulicmer, accordion, country fiddle, and bagpipes. (I’m abour ready to give up on the bagpipes … that’s a whole other story.)
I’d like (at least I THINK I’d like) to form a blue-grass and/or country dance band this time. If that doesn’t happen, then at least I want to attend some bluegrass festivals and find musical buddies to jam with. That might be the most do-able of the two. We’ll see.
The picture is of my keyboard … amazing little instrument and a lOT easier to transport than my piano.
