I will never forget the voice at the end of the phone line when I called to pay my car off 26 months early. The gentleman on the other end felt the need to state the amount several times to confirm that I really wanted to pay off the loan. It was almost comical. In the end, he congratulated me, but I think he was wondering who this person calling was and why they would want to pay off any loan that early. Debt is so engrained in our society.
The first time my monthly car payment due date came around, I automatically started to include it in my monthly budgeting and had to stop myself. I had gotten so used to the payments, but I was excited to be able to break that habit! It’s such an amazing feeling to have that money freed up each month, and I’ll be able to reach other goals that much faster. What a weight off my shoulders!
Now that I own my car outright, I love it even more. It sounds different and handles differently (in a good way) when I’m driving down the road…because it’s mine and not the bank’s! This is the first and last car loan I intend to ever take out. I am knocking debt for good. Now I’m building my emergency fund and when I meet my fund goal, I will tackle paying off the house early.
It’s not easy, but it’s worth it!
