I am not adopting this goal formally until I finish my studies yet I thought much can be done during my studies . So I started to discuss about it in my class , which helped myself a lot in learning and sharing about this issue .
Some recent facts were quite disturbing , UNHRC published a report on domestic violence , the survey was conducted in both least -developed countries (LDC) and more – developed countries (MDC).
In some countries 50 % , 40 % or 30% of the woman suffered physical abuse , the contrast was, in MDC’s the violence get reported or help is sought from different organization which is readily accessible .But in LDC’s the case was different , only 10 % of them gets reported or seeks help .
We all know woman are not only the victims of domestic violence , children and man as well , but majority of the cases are woman and children . The report stated that many woman who were interviewed thought that it was “okay for their partners to use physical abuse if they do not obey them “ .
It also stated that , many woman suffer a long term damage to their both physical and mental health , for which many woman do not take any treatment . One answer I can’t find is that why people become abusive and why the numbers are increasing .I have seen abusive people come from all walks of life: rich, poor, educated. There isn’t an easy answer why they act this way, it’s probably based in insecurities learnt in childhood. Perhaps we are what we learn to be, if we learn manners from our parents or environment , we will have manners, if our father or mother is abusive we ‘ll learn to view it as the norm and accept that it’s OK to be abusive.
I suspect understanding why the abuse happens won’t make those suffering the abuse any happier. There will be help the abuser can get, but as with most things learnt in childhood, they have to accept that it is wrong and WANT to change – many don’t, many can’t . Many live like that for the rest of their lives . Perhaps there should be an increased role of fathers and mothers of today to eliminate abusive attitudes and in promoting good and healthy family relationship , woman should be educated about their rights and in using their rights , in poor countries especially , if these woman were living a healthy & happy lives , they would have been economic and social contributors and reformers as well, leading their country to a better future . Many children in LDC’s who suffer violence , cannot express themselves , many of them are extremely talented , lack of attention , lack of exposure , lack of care, being seen their family members abused both verbally and physically , makes them demoralized . They lose their skills , qualities , a life that would have been a much better than their parents .
