Well, it’s kind of a start, but I’m entering a publishing company’s contest to write a children’s story. It’s for quite young children, so the emphasis is on choosing the exactly the right words rather than having a long manuscript.
I have never written for children, so this is a new challenge. But it’s an easier hurdle than writing a 60,000 word book (the story will be no more than 800 words), and if it gets published, then that’s a bonus.
The only down side is that by entering you win cash, hurrah, but you also give up your copyright on the text. I think this stinks. But winning isn’t the reason why I’m entering; I just want the satisfaction of the creative process and having a story at the end of it.
Oh, and my story involves lots of mushy peas!
