I used to ice skate, when I was small. My mother was a world-class figure skater (although her sister went to the Olympics instead of her, and ended up breaking her ankle before o.O) and she believed that every child ought to learn to ice skate as a part of growing up. I remember loving going with her, and looking forward to the days at the ice rink, where she would hold my hand and help me stay up. I remember (vividly) the first time she let go, and for all of 0.3 seconds I skated on my own! =D
When I was small everything fell apart at home, and my Mom stopped skating. In turn, we stopped skating as well (my 4 sisters and I anyway, my brother continued in ice hockey). Thus I have not even visited an ice rink since I was around 11 or 12 years old. I sold my custom figure skates at a yard sale after I met my husband, and I am regretting it. I am still a size EUR 37, so they would still fit me if I had kept them. =(
I want to learn again, and I want to teach my children to ice skate as well. We can roller skate wonderfully (on 70’s 4-wheel skates), if that counts for anything. LOL
There is an ice skating rink just down the street, if I can just find the time to go! =|
