We talked for a really long time, and I was so glad we did! He may not be around a whole lot longer, and I will always be glad I took some extra time for him now. He’s still sharp as a tack, but his body is weak and I think he gets really bored. He’s been talking for decades about writing an autobiography, and I’ve offered before to help him with it… but I offered again and I think he just might take me up on it this time. He’ll write things out longhand, just the way he likes, and I’ll type it all up and make edits. We also talked about his health, and about potential changes as his health declines; wow, some of those things really needed to be said instead of ignored! And he offered to help with a down payment on a house whenever we find something we like (not that we’re looking). All in all it was terrific and I am so glad I stopped feeling guilty that I don’t visit more often and started picking up the phone more regularly.
Checking it off my task list for this week; will call again next weekend.
