Juiceboy took me out last weekend and gave me my first stick-shift driving lesson. Even though we stayed in the neighborhood, we’re totally overprotective parents and didn’t let our 9-year old Bug stay home alone on that Sunday afternoon. Instead, what did we great parents do?
We had him sit in that little fold-down seat behind the driver’s seat in Juiceboy’s truck. And since we knew I’d be making the truck lurch back and forth, and we didn’t want the poor Bug to smash his head on the back window, we had him wear…his bike helmet.
So there we are, the three of us freaks, in this lurching truck, doing circles around our block, and then around the bigger block, for half an hour, with this poor little kid hunched in the back with a helmet on.
I’m sure our neighboors think we’re nuts.
Next lesson: third gear!
