I will be a good citizen. I will be an exemplary neighbour (in the ways my particular neighbours care about). I will keep my walk free of snow and ice. I will prepare my sidewalk for the arrival of the postie who will be able to mount my steps with safety, ease and grace rather than understandable, sullen resentment. This person brings me New Yorkers, poetry, and software payments. This person is my lifeline.
I will do this horribly early in the day, at a time heretofore exotic to me.
I begin now. (The latest snowfall will melt today, but not before the postal worker arrives.)
