Since I turned 50, I decided it was time to grow up and actually DO all those things I keep telling myself I should do. I have set some goals related to this, which include:
—getting in shape
—getting my house in shape
—reading books I have bought and had hanging around.
Mostly, this goal is about being a whole person, which includes not only having fun and fully enjoying my life, but also accepting responsibility and doing all those things that, while not fun, are conducive to a sane, full life.
So far, I have learned to enjoy cleaning house. Gotten my bathroom halfway finished. Gotten my bedroom halfway finished. Kept my downstairs bathroom clean for six months straight. Traveled to Greece. Drank mojitos on the beach. Climbed the Acropolis. Helped my friend deal with her dad’s murder. Thrown away clothes I hate. Tried a peach bellini. Drank my first martini. Thrown away things that are stained, torn, etc. Gotten a tattoo (which I was informed by people at work that I am too old to do. what the hell!)
I’m not sure what 50 is supposed to look like, but I am going to make my own definition for what it is supposed to be. Thanks, Emily, for giving me the inspiration.
