I dream about this place sometimes in my sleep. There is an old house in Houston that I love (I put a photo of it in Houston and I also put it here.) It needs some work, but the bones are awesome. I would love to be able to buy it and fix it up and live in it.
I have always loved old homes. I don’t know why. Maybe it is the sense of history or maybe it is the fact that they were built in an era when people did things well simply for the love of doing things well.
One of the things I don’t like about Houston is how much we throw our history away. If something gets old, the city rips it out and puts something new. I weep to think of all of our history that is simply thrown away. It’s one of the things I love about Europe. They know how to preserve their history while moving on with life and, as a result, have this wonderful mix of old and new all surviving together so you get a real sense of where they have been as well as where they are going.
