it was a very good year for poetry writing for me. The best since 1990, without a doubt. Writing for such a smart and good-hearted audience as I found here on 43t was a pleasure and inspiration. Thanks so much to everyone who read and cheered and commented on my poems!

In a surprise move, our admin assistant asked me to write a limerick this afternoon. It’s for some sort of group volunteer activity she has planned. I haven’t written one since 10th grade, some 25 years ago. Have to say, getting paid to write a poem is a novelty. Here it is.

The Dancer

There once was an adman named Paul
Whose grace was well-known to all.
He came to the office every day
Dreaming of joining the ballet
And left doing pirouettes in the hall.

isn’t possible. I’ve let myself become discouraged. I don’t have the sense of urgency I once did. Then, I was writing poems daily, sometimes three in a day. If I didn’t write, no matter how difficult it was to find inspiration, I felt like a wreck. Will try to write a poem this week, at least twice.
