Summer flowers 2 months ago

The garden grew more wild this year. Every year I like to add a little more to it. By Septmenber, it is a little out of control, overgrown with weeds. But that doesn’t seem to lessen my enjoyment. This sunflower grew over seven feet high.

Just returned 4 months ago

from a five day vacation. The heat and lack of rain took their toll. The dogwood I planted in the spring may not survive. I was watering it last night, and the brittle leaves were falling off as the water struck them.

this time of year, 4 months ago

gardening in Kansas is mostly about weeding and mulching. I try never to use herbicides and haven’t used them at all this year. We had a quick inch and a half of rain early this morning, which meant high humidity the rest of the day, along with damp soil, so if pulled with the right leverage, the whole weed root comes up. Exhausting but satisfying.
