We saw it at the IMAX and in 3D. I expect it to be a very successful film commercially, and I think it’s good. It falls into the long tradition of movies in which a white guy goes into a native culture and sort of joins up and then with his superior abilities, saves the native people. It’s three hours long and much of it is very very beautiful, a feast for the eyes. Least interesing to me are the long long scenes of battle.

One can’t help but be disturbed by watching this man, at least half insane with grief, search for his 7-year-old daughter, who was abducted in a train station some months ago. Ends with a note of something like forgiveness.
Don’t recomemmend. I loved the first Elizabeth installment with Blanchett, but this one goes nowhere slowly. Even the sinking of the Spanish Armada can’t put much life into it. A more inspired movie would have been about Sir Walter Raleigh with Elizabeth as supporting character.
I liked the leads in this indy road trip movie enough to watch it to the end. It was pretty good, better than one generally finds on Showtime at 2 a.m. Despite being full of indy movie cliches with the road trip, the young sensitive 19-year-old out finding himself and so on. Those are some of my favorite cliches.
Not a good movie, but the actors are darned good. My wife and I watched much of this together. She got bored by the long chase in Manhattan near the very end. I stayed with it, but all those expensive and unnecessary special effects bored me too.
Way too long. Some good special effects, but I wonder why it was any longer than two hours. Did someone think they had a story to tell here?
I loved this movie. I didn’t figure out what the Will Smith character was up to until very close to the end. A great role for Smith. Never liked him better.
I thought I would like this better than I did. A bleak story that doesn’t move forward much. Good performances but they didn’t have that much range. The story brought me down. A rags to rags movie.
a very fine movie. I recommend but Jane Campion doesn’t spare her viewer many of the details of John Keats’ early, tragic death.
Good movie. Scared me a little bit a few times. The movie is being compared to Blair Witch, which makes sense, since this one owes so much to that terrifying picture. Made on a shoestring budget, too, supporting the theory that special effects and star power are not as important as a good idea that is nearly fully realized on screen.
